// Olympic Textile Installation Workshops

Published: Thursday June 14, 2012

People wishing to participate in the creation of Barnard Castle's Olympic Textile Art Installation can book a free place on one of the workshop dates at NeST gallery in Newgate, Barnard Castle or send completed 5" textile squares to the gallery.

Workshops with textile artist Lone Helliwell will take place at NeST on Friday 15th June and 13th July from 2-4p.m.  Lone will instruct participants how to interpret lines from Anne Dauber's winning poem The Great Grey Barn using a variety of techniques including knitting, felting and embroidery.  Sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities.  Advance booking is advisable. Tel: 07413 101014

Alternatively, log on to the Winning Words project blog, read the poem and send a completed interpretive textile square (5" x 5") together with your name, address, e-mail and telephone number to:  Olympic Textile Installation, c/o Judith Lesley Marshall, NeST gallery, 25 Newgate, Barnard Castle, Co. Durham, DL12 8NG.

Remember to state which part of the poem you are drawing inspiration from and list the techniques used.  The closing date is Saturday 21st July 2012.

This is a great opportunity to take part in the cultural Olympic project.  Barnard Castle is one of the seven beacon towns chosen to run the Winning Words poetry project and represents the North East of the country in this Olympic venture.  Further details can be found on the project blog at: http://www.winningwordsatbarnardcastlenest.wordpress.com
