NeST has just received a new selection of ceramic work by Judy Caplin and Caroline Hudson.
Judy has developed a series of tea bowls in raku. Raku is a method wherby a piece is fired, removed from a red hot kiln and plunged into sawdust to reduce the glazes and smoke the clay body.
The pieces are then washed. This procedure allows the colours, surface and texture to emerge.
The finished product is thus created from earth, air, fire and water. Judy's tea bowls come in blue, green, red, white, turquoise and copper.
Purple and turquoise are the main colours featured in Caroline's work which is influenced by the way that the shore, sea and sky blend together.
Caroline draws inspiration from objects found on the beach, rock pools and rock strata to create original pieces in a range of shapes and sizes.
She considers clay as a canvas for making and drawing patterns that she sees everywhere in the world around her.
Caroline has developed a selection of bowls and pots exclusive to NeST.
Prices for ceramic pieces currently on show by these two artists range from £65 to £150.
